Listening prayer is attentive and patient. It does not require you to turn every thought into a message from God.

## God's guidance does not need panic

Be cautious with thoughts that demand secrecy, harm, control, or an immediate dramatic act. Strong urgency can come from fear as easily as faith.

Important guidance can stand up to time, truth, and the questions of wise people.

## Look for the fruit over time

A good direction should move you towards love, honesty, courage, patience, and responsibility. It may still be difficult.

Write what you sensed and review it later. Memory tends to tidy uncertainty after the event.

## A prayer you can use

God, quiet the noise that keeps me from attention.

Give me humility about my own thoughts and wisdom to recognise what is good.

Lead me towards the way of Jesus and keep me open to correction.
